- UNIT 7: TRAFFIC Lesson 1: Getting started – Meeting in the school yard (Time: 1 period) I. OBJECTIVES: -By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: * Vocab: lexical items related topic “Traffic” * Grammar: revise giving advice with should/ shouldn’t. 2. Competencies: a. General competencies: - Develop communication skills and cultural awareness - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork - Actively join in class activities b. Specific competencies: - An overview about the topic Traffic - Use some words related to the topic Traffic. - Ask and answer about some means of transport. 3. Qualities: - Develop awareness of travelling in town/city - Be concerned to the local traffic - Establish good habits in obeying traffic rules II. PREPARATIONS: - Teacher: Textbooks, teaching plan, teacher’s book, projector, CD. - Students: Textbooks, notebooks III. PROCEDURES: Activity 1: Warm-up (5’-GW) 1. Aim: To activate students’ knowledge on the topic of the unit. To enhance students’ skills of cooperating with team mates. 2. Content: Miming game 3. Products: Students guess words correctly. 4. Organization of implementation: Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content *Warm up: T – Ss (divide class into 2 * Warm up: Miming game groups)
- Step 1: Assign tasks The teacher gives instructions (students watch the video and memorize the vocabulary then write it on the board in groups). Step 2: Perform the task Students in two groups take turns writing vocabulary on the board Step 3: Report and discussion The teacher gives the answers and checks to see which team can write down the most vocabulary Key: bike, motorbike, car, van, truck, bus, train Step 4: Judgment The teacher announced the winning team Lead in: The teacher leads into a new lesson. Activity 2: Presentation (7’) Pre teach vocabulary 1. Aim: To introduce the vocabulary appearing in the text. 2. Content: Learn some vocabularies related to the topic. 3. Content: Listen and read the conversation, choose the correct answer A, B, or C. 3. Products: Students read and understand content of the conversation.
