  1. Tiếng Anh 2 i-Learn Smart Start Week: Date of teaching: Period: 2 UNIT 5: FREE TIME ACTIVITIES Lesson 2 I. Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to gain the following: 1. Knowledge Letters: Uu Vocabulary: umbrella, uncle 2. Language skills To review the /ʌ/ sound. 3. Core competencies & Personal qualities • To be interested in learning • Actively joining in class activities • Collaborative and supportive in teamwork II. Teaching aids: Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, IWB software, projector/interactive whiteboard/TV. Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Procedures: Time Steps/Activities Organization 5’ Warm-up • Teacher – Alphabet Line-up whole class
  2. Give each students an alphabet flashcard. Play the Alphabet song and have the students skip around in a circle, singing along to the song. Stop music at random points and the students have to line up in the correct alphabetical order according to their cards. Option 1: • Teacher – “Hangman” game Whole class/ Split the class into two teams. groupwork Draw the hangman board and draw blank spaces ( e.g. _ _ _ _ _) for the word the teacher wants them to guess. Have each team guess a letter. If they guess it correctly then they get one point for each letter in the word. If they get it wrong then draw a head, body, 2 legs and 2 arms. When the teacher draws all the parts of body the game is over and the teacher starts a new game. The winner is the one with the most points at the end of the last puzzle. Option 2: • Teacher – "Touch" game Whole class/ Divide the class into four teams. groupwork Have one student from each team stand a distance from the board. Stick some flashcards on the board. Then the teacher says a letter or a word. (E.g. Please touch letter “T” three times!) Have the students race to the board, touch that flashcard, and say the correct word. The first student to touch the flashcard and say the word gets a point for their team. Continue with other students.
  3. 25’ New lesson 5. Listen and repeat. Trace. (CD1 - Track 73) • Teacher – Have students look at the pictures. Whole class/ Point to the pictures and say the letters' sounds. individuals Play audio. Have students listen and repeat the letter sounds. 6. Listen and repeat. Write. (CD1 - Track 74) • Teacher – Have students look at the pictures. Whole class Demonstrate pointing to the correct letter when you hear the sound or word. Play audio. Have students point to the correct picture at the top of the page when they hear the appropriate sound or word. 7. Sing. (CD1 - Track 75) • Teacher – Play audio and have students listen. Whole class Have students look at the lyrics. Read the lyrics and do actions following them. Play audio and have students listen, sing along, and do the actions. Have students make a new verse with the word "uncle" and sing along the same melody as the first one. 8. Listen and hop. (CD1 - Track 76) • Teacher – Demonstrate the activity. Whole class Have students stand up. Have students hop when they hear the letter sound. Workbook - page 35 • Teacher – C. Listen and number. Whole class/ Have students identify the pictures of part C. individuals Guide them how to do the text. Play audio. Have students listen and write the number in
  4. each box. Play audio again. Have students listen and check. Check understanding and correct mistake as a whole class. D. Look and write. Have students look at the pictures and try to complete the words. Check understanding as a whole class and give the correct answers to the students. 5’ Wrap up Option 1: • Teacher – “I spy” game Whole class/ Divide the class into groups of five. groupwork Have one student in each group says "I spy with my little eye, something beginning with letter (U)” . The remain students try to guess the word (e.g. "umbrella"). Continue with other students in each group. Option 2: • Teacher – “Jump” game Whole class/ Divide the class into four teams. groupwork Have one student from each team stand a distance from the board. Draw two big circles on the floor. Each circle has a letter (Tt, Uu) Call out one word (E.g. tiger). The students try to jump into the circle with the corresponding letter then say “/t/ tiger.”. The winner is the student who jumps into the correct letter circle first.
